Eva Aguila reports, “My film and project Comida a Mano, which was part of the city of Los Angeles’ CURRENT:LA Public Art Triennial in 2019 was featured in ARTNEWS. Comida a Mano will also be part of the exhibition Simmer at Murray Art Museum in Albury, Australia from Friday, 26 Nov. – Sunday, Feb. 13. Simmer is a collaborative project between artists, local cooks, chefs, and family members, centered on the experiences of preparing and sharing food. This major new original exhibition considers how food can bring us together, break down barriers, and open us up to new experiences. The exhibition will invite the community to try new recipes each week and share their own experiences of food and culture. About me: Eva Aguila is a multidisciplinary artist and organizer from Los Angeles. Aguila’s background includes film, video, performance, and sound. She is also the founder and director of Coaxial Arts Foundation. Her passion for organizing started as a need to support underrepresented art communities. Aguila co-created Coaxial Arts Foundation in 2015 as a way to further the community of multimedia artists in LA, as well as foster the community itself. Inspired by the in-between and structuralist techniques, her work most recently is informed by the oral histories and Mexican diaspora of rural communities of Michoacán, Mexico, where her parents and family are from.”
