Charles Levin (Music BFA 75, MFA 12) and CalArts jazz faculty member Joe La Barbera await the September publication of their book, Times Remembered: The Final Years of the Bill Evans Trio. A first-person account, the tome is La Barbera’s memoir of his 20-month stint as the last drummer to play in the iconic pianist’s final band. The book is being published by the University of North Texas Press. Levin, who played drums for roughly 30 years, retired from music in 2019, bowing to health issues. He spent 15 years (1993-2008) in journalism, writing for four daily newspapers, including eight years at the Ventura County Star. His byline also appeared in DownBeat, Jazziz and the Monterey Jazz Festival program.
