Fifteen years ago, Steven Bilow (Music BFA 82) photographed a Pink Martini concert in Portland, OR. This year, the band performed at his synagogue, where he had the joy of gifting prints from that earlier show to Cantor Ida Rae Cahana and singers China Forbes and Storm Large. (He’s the “lucky little old man” pictured in the accompanying photo.)
Steven recently completed his term on the CalArts Alumni Council and has joined the board of the Golden Leaf Education Foundation. He also serves on the Education Committee of the Oregon Mycological Society and the editorial board of SMPTE’s Motion Imaging Journal.
Professionally, he has returned to Grass Valley as Senior Product Manager for Infrastructure Platforms — a longtime dream since his CalArts days, where he first explored video tools. Now 65, Steve is contemplating retirement, but stays busy with photography, glasswork, and ongoing projects in tech. He remains deeply grateful to CalArts for its interdisciplinary spirit where an electronic music composer could learn enough to build a career in video technology.
