Fía Benitez (Art MFA 21) is featured in The Journey is the Destination: Recording Los Angeles at the California State University, Northridge Art Galleries, on view through Nov. 6, 2025. Curated by Holly Jerger, the exhibition presents seven Los Angeles–based artists who explore the cultural histories of the city’s overlooked neighborhoods and communities.

Benitez debuts 13 oil paintings from her series Myth of Origin, inspired by the discovery of her great-great-great uncle’s grave in East Los Angeles. Drawing from government documents, historical maps, and family photographs, the works connect political and familial histories while reflecting on the nonlinear process of tracing origin and belonging.
