Rick Minnich (Film/Video 92)

Rick Minnich’s latest feature documentary The Strait Guys was released theatrically throughout Germany on June 2. The film tells the story of the 76-year old Czech-born mining engineer George Koumal, who is on a mission to connect the United States and Russia with a 100-kilometer long train tunnel beneath the Bering Strait. In the film, Rick travels along the proposed railroad route through Alaska and Siberia with George and his fast-talking protégé, Scott as they endeavor to convince international governments, corporations, and indigenous tribes to green-light their $100 billion railway project—with the promise to become the Panama Canal of the 21st century. With The Strait Guys, Rick fulfilled a lifelong dream to travel to the American island of Little Diomede in the middle of the Bering Strait, where he looked into tomorrow at the Russian island Big Diomede only two miles away on the other side of the International Dateline. The Strait Guys is currently playing film festivals around the world, and will be released in the US in late-2022 or early-2023. For more information, please visit: www.thestraitguys.com
