Margaret Batiuchok (Dance 78)

Margaret Batiuchok teaches swing, ballroom, solo jazz, and other dances in person and on Zoom (groups, privates, singles, couples, wedding couples). She will be teaching outdoor events at the Queens Botanical Garden July 16 and at Lincoln Center Aug. 5. You can see her on YouTube. She won the Harvest Moon Ball in Lindy in 1983 at Madison Square Garden and was co-founder and president of the New York Swing Dance Society. She teaches annually at Lincoln Center (this year Aug. 5), where she did the opening demos the first two years with “king of swing” Frankie Manning. During COVID, before partner dance returned, she got into freestyle solo jazz in the parks and streets of New York City dancing to the bands outside. She received her BFA from CalArts in 1978, and her master’s from NYU in 1988. Her MA thesis “The Lindy” and accompanying DVDs—are available, and known worldwide, with partners Frankie Manning, George Lloyd, Charlie Meade, and Tom Lewis. She has also written about dance in some dance magazines. She’s in the Swing Dance Hall of Fame and National Living Legends of Dance and has received the West Coast Swing’s Torch Award and Gotham Swing’s Lifetime Achievement Award. danceMB.com
