Charles Levin co-authored Times Remembered: The Final Years of the Bill Evans Trio with retired Music faculty member Joe La Barbera. The book is La Barbera’s memoir, telling the story of his 20-month stint with the iconic jazz pianist Evans. It was published in September 2021 by the University of North Texas Press and sold out its first printing amidst glowing reviews. As part of the project, Levin manages a website and writes and edits a monthly newsletter to promote the book. La Barbera retired in May 2021 from CalArts after 28 years as the school’s jazz drums instructor. He was recently named faculty emeritus. Charles retired from music in 2019, bowing to health issues. He now pursues fine art photography from his homes in Ventura, California, and New York City. In April, Charles was a guest host on the @lariverx Instagram account, which featured eight of his images. Another photo, titled “Rear Window(s),” was selected for an online exhibition by the South Manchester Camera Club in England.
