Socks Whitmore checks in, “Despite the chaotic nature of 2021, I managed to sign with my first talent manager and launch my career to a new level! In between shooting music videos with Transgender Talent, virtual theater and cabaret content for Debatable Productions, and my first lead role in a feature film, The Magical Christmas Tree, I also workshopped new choral music with C3LA, recorded vocals for an up-and-coming musical theater demo production company, and continually booked voice-over work on everything from audiobooks with Penguin Random House such as, This Is Our Rainbow and Narwhal’s School of Awesomeness to serial audio dramas such as Human Error and The Sheridan Tapes. Creatively, I’m celebrating my first commission to write a visual novel of my own design as well as being accepted into Overtone Industries’ 2021-’22 Original Vision program for opera development with my fellow CalArtian, Gillian Perry. It was also a pleasure to be interviewed on a variety of platforms about my artistry, from the We Are Trans spinoff podcast Trans Talk to CalArts’ very own upcoming Coursera course on freelancing and artistic entrepreneurship.
