Scott Ulrich shares, “As the animation supervisor working with Logan Media on the Apple TV+ show Calls, I was a recipient of a 2021 Emmy Award for Outstanding Motion Design. An experimental sci-fi series, Calls is told entirely through the animation of interconnected phone conversations. A collaborative effort, the show combined reactive audio programming to make graphic backgrounds synchronized with dialogue, together with animating typography representing each character. My role in the project was to develop the typography and look of the final combined elements and also to lead the team of animation artists. During the 18-month project, production shifted to home studios due to Covid lockdowns. My wife Alice is a graduate of Art Center College of Design. Our son Scott started CalArts this past fall, enrolled in the Design program at the School of Art, focusing on animation. Our younger son Sidney is currently a junior at San Marino High School.”
