Denman (Denny) Maroney (Music 74) writes, “In my last note I recounted moving to France and meeting fellow expat bassist Scott Walton. Since then, I’ve formed a band with Scott and two French musicians: reedist Robin Fincker and drummer Samuel Sylvant. We meet regularly to work on a suite of tunes I’ve written for us, which I’m thinking of calling ‘The COVID Variations.’ At the end of March, we’ll spend two days in a local recording studio that used to be a sheep barn. I had my piano moved from America to the local church (photo attached), which is 500 years old. My rent is to play for the two services a month that are held there. The rest of the time I have the place to myself. C’est mon atelier. Ma garçonnière!”
