Kubilay Uner (Music 92) catches us up: “This year I got to scratch off my perhaps biggest bucket list item yet—I wrote and produced a genuine Wyld Stallyns song, with the concise title “That Which Binds Us Through Time: The Chemical, Physical and Biological Nature Of Love; An Exploration of The Meaning of Meaning, Part 1,” for the feature film Bill & Ted Face the Music. The song is also included on the soundtrack album. My first encounter with Bill and Ted was seeing Bogus Journey at the discount theater on Lyons in Newhall while studying at CalArts, so this was really a homecoming of sorts. I also wrote the score for the action film Force of Nature, starring Mel Gibson, Kate Bosworth, and Emile Hirsch, and directed by fellow CalArts alum Michael Polish (BFA 92). The film was released in July of this year and was among the top 10 streaming films for the first two weeks after release. Another Michael Polish-directed feature, the historical drama Axis Sally, starring Al Pacino and Meadow Williams, is slated to be released later this year, with a score by yours truly. And this fall marks the start of my seventh year as the director for the Music Composition for the Screen MFA program at Columbia College Chicago. Proud to say that in November 2019, the Hollywood Reporter ranked our MFA program third among the world’s best academic programs for film and TV music.”
